The river Kocha (কচা নদী) is a much larger river from the Southern part of our Bangladesh. It is created when the two famous rivers Modhumoti (মধুমতি নদী) and the Shondha (সন্ধা নদী) merged together near at the Hularhat (হুলারহাট). After converging the two rivers it got a new name Kocha (কচা নদী) and carrying this new name until it falls into the Bay of Bengal.
Most of the main rivers from our Southern Bangladesh are having bridge on them to ease the communication. But for some unknown reason (as I don't know) this river Kocha (কচা নদী) is not having any bridge. And the communication between the Bagerhat (বাগেরহাট) or Pirojpur (পিরোজপুর) and Barisal (বরিশাল) is hugely dependent upon this river. One has to wait for around 30 minutes to 2 hours to crossing this river. Whereas a bridge can reduce this duration into few minutes.
There is only one ferry that is dealing all the transportation. During the first day of our four days tour we have to wait only 20 minutes for the ferry. It was very hot and scorching. Most of the time we were sitting inside the car. While crossing the river we were standing in front of our car and watching the activities from the river. There were quite a few fishing boats on the river. The journey was only for 15-20 minutes. It was probably the 12:00 pm of the day.
During the third day of our trip we have encountered the same river again while returning. But this time we were unlucky. We were the last vehicle that couldn't able to board on that ferry as there wasn't any space. So that ferry went to the other side, unload current vehicles, and later loaded again with new vehicles and returned back to this side. Which means we had to wait more than an hour before boarding. It was early in the morning, probably 10:00am.
In the meantime we have explored the area near the ferry ghat. We had a walk around the streets nearby and explored the bank of the river as well. It was the high tide time probably. The water from the sea was pushing back inside the river. There was a palm tree beside the river and lot of abandoned nests of Baya weaver bird were hanging from that tree.
GPS coordinate of the river and the ferry ghat is around this (22°34'35.51"N, 90° 1'55.49"E).
It was the day-1 and day-3 of our four days trip at Southern Bangladesh. We have traveled Barisal (বরিশাল), Jhalokathi (ঝালকাঠি), Pirojpur (পিরোজপুর), Bagerhat (বাগেরহাট), and Khulna (খুলনা) in those days.
