Kishoreganj: Hoarshi Shahi Mosque(হোরশী শাহী মসজিদ)

Friday, 07 June 2013

Hoarshi Shahi Mosque(হোরশী শাহী মসজিদ) is actually known as Masjidpara Mosque(মসজিদপারা মসজিদ). But now a days no one knows this name anymore. Also, the local people pronounce Hoarshi as Horshi(হোরশী), more precisely Orshi(ওরশী), Hosshi(হসশি). People from this particular area pronounce Bengali words in different tone. They will find the bookish words from your mouth so much funny.

This mosque was built during 675-76AD, according to a Persian inscription that is affixed permanently over the central doorway. It was mainly a square shaped mosque having a single dome over the roof which covers almost the overall roof.

Department of Archaeology announced this as a protected monument of the country, but I believe its already too late. Its a small mosque. To accommodate more people inside the mosque premise, local people built an extension at the three sides of the mosque. The extension is having tin shade roof, and for that its pretty hard to locate the original mosque.

How to Go:

Hoarshi Shahi Mosque(হোরশী শাহী মসজিদ) is located at the village Hoarshi(হোরশী) which is around 5 kilometer North from the Pakundia Upozila(পাকুন্দিয়া উপজেলা). Communication between Hoarshi(হোরশী) and Pakundia(পাকুন্দিয়া) is not smooth. Below is the direction for locating the Hoarshi Shahi Mosque(হোরশী শাহী মসজিদ).

1) Come to the Shukhia(সুখিয়া) Bazaar using any Easy Bike from the Pakundia(পাকুন্দিয়া) town. It will cost you 15 taka and around 15 minutes. For your information, its on the Pakundia-Kishoreganj road.

2) Take any Rickshaw from the Shukhia(সুখিয়া) Bazaar to drop you at the Hoarshi(হোরশী) Bazaar. It will be around 30 taka rickshaw fare.

3) The mosque is located 100 meter north from the bazaar. Just have a walk to visit it.

GPS Coordinate of the Hoarshi Shai Mosque(হোরশী শাহী মসজিদ) is (24°21'46.27"N, 90°41'11.49"E).

In my case, few portion of the road between the Hoarshi(হোরশী) Bazaar and the Shukhia(সুখিয়া) was under construction. So I had to walk that portion. Also, while returning, I didn't find any rickshaw or anything as the road was not in a condition to accept any kind of vehicles. So I walked. It was around 25-30 minutes of walking from the Hoarshi(হোরশী) to Shukhia(সুখিয়া). It was hot weather and I was sweating, but I have enjoyed the walking at the afternoon. Probably it was 5:20 at the day.

Mymensingh: Biriyani of Press Club(প্রেস ক্লাবের বিরিয়ানি)

Friday, 08 March 2013

The Biriyani(বিরিয়ানি) of Press Club Canteen near the Ganginar Par(গাংগিনার পার) of Mymensingh(ময়্মনসিংহ) town is famous for it's taste and historical value(I don't know much!). During our tour, I have decided to have a lunch at this canteen with the Biriyani(বিরিয়ানি). Everybody knows about this canteen at Mymensingh(ময়্মনসিংহ) town. So, after reaching near the Ganginar Par(গাংগিনার পার), just ask anyone around you to locate the canteen.

Additional Chicken Curry.

We have tasted three plates of Biriyani(বিরিয়ানি) with additional two chicken curries, mineral water and a bottle of soft drink. Including the tips for the waiter, our bill was 550 taka. Possibly a plate of Biriyani(বিরিয়ানি) was around 120 taka, I forgot. They use to serve the Biriyani(বিরিয়ানি) in a plate where you'll find a chicken's piece is covered with the Biriyani(বিরিয়ানি) inside the plate.

Biriyani(বিরিয়ানি) Plate and the Chicken Curry.

This canteen is at the second floor. I presumed this would be a smaller one. But found slight larger, yet small considering it's popularity . Inside was slight darker, or was I wearing a sun glass? A possible location for the canteen is somewhere around this GPS coordinate (24°45'25.12"N, 90°24'23.39"E).

Kishoreganj: Kobi Chondraboti Shib Mondir(কবি চন্দ্রাবতী শিব মন্দির)

Saturday, 07 June 2013

Poet Chandrabati(চন্দ্রাবতী) is considered to be the first Female poet in Bengali literature. She was born in 1550. Her father's name was Bangshidas Bhattacharya(বংশীদাস ভট্টাচার্য) who is considered as one of the composers of Monoshamongol(মনসা মঙ্গল). She along with her father composed the Monosha Debir Bhashan(মনসা দেবীর ভাসান) during 1575. Poet Chondraboti(কবি চন্দ্রাবতী) started narrating the Ramayana(রামায়ন) from the Sita's(সীতা) point of view by criticizing Rama(রাম). But unfortunately, she couldn't finish her work.

There are two Shib Mondir(শিব মন্দির) available near the village Chandrabati(চন্দ্রাবতী) that is around 6 kilometer apart from the Kishoreganj(কিশোরগঞ্জ) town. One of those are shorter in size. These temples are related with many stories of Chandrabati(চন্দ্রাবতী) and her life. It is believed that the temples were built during the 16th century, contemporary to the poet's birth.

It was around 3:00 at the afternoon when I have reached there. So I was the only traveler or tourist there that time. There are few sitting places available near the temple. Authority built those for the visitors. Probably during the holidays or at afternoon lot of visitors use to gather here.

How to Go:

Basically most of the literate person from Kishoreganj(কিশোরগঞ্জ) town use to know about this temple and Poet Chondraboti(চন্দ্রাবতী). But unfortunately I had a slight difficulties to locate it as I was asking to the wrong guys. Finally an 'easy-bike' driver from the Shohidi Mosque stand(শহিদী মসজিদ স্ট্যান্ড) of the town came to rescue me. He dropped me at the road side near the village Chandraboti(চন্দ্রাবতী) and from there I had to cross the bridge over river Narasunda(নরসুন্দা) and had to walk around 7/8 minutes to reach near the temples. You can follow the below directions to locate the temple.

1) Ride on an easy bike from the Shohidi Mosque(শহিদী মসজিদ) Stand. Ask the driver to drop you near the Chandraboti(চন্দ্রাবতী) village. This will be just after(2-3 minutes) the Jalalganj(জালালগঞ্জ) Station. GPS coordinate of the dropping point is (24°29'46.85"N, 90°47'42.61"E). You have to count 15 taka for the ride.

2) From there, cross the bridge over the river and keep walking. It is not far from there.

For your assistance, here is the GPS coordinate of the Chondrabati(চন্দ্রাবতী) Temple (24°29'44.16"N, 90°48'3.59"E).

The villages of Bangladesh are always beautiful regardless the season. So while walking on the typical village road, you'll find lot of scenic beauties around. Also, walking on the Metho Poth(মেঠো পথ) of village is always feeling like a charm to me.

Jessore: Chachra Shib Mondir(চাঁচড়া শিব মন্দির)

Friday, 21 June 2013

Chachra Shib Temple(চাঁচড়া শিব মন্দির) is a 17th century built temple that is located at the Chachra(চাঁচড়া) of Jessore(যশোর) district. It is located exactly beside the Jessore-Benapol(যশোর-বেনাপোল) highway. This is a two stored Shiva temple that is having a single Rotno(রত্ন)[basically the second store] at the top.

Chachra Shib Temple(চাঁচড়া শিব মন্দির) is having stylish outer wall at the three sides out of four. Most of those are old fashioned but simple terracotta. It was left carelessly for many years. But recently the department of Bangladesh Archaeology renovated the temple and declared this as an archaeological asset of Bangladesh. From the inscription of the temple, its found that the Temple was build by someone named Monohor Ray(মনোহর রায়) during 1696.

How to Go:

Chachra Shib Temple(চাচড়া শিব মন্দির) is located at Chachra(চাচড়া) which is very near from the main town of Jessore(যশোর). The temple is exactly beside the Jessore-Benapol(যশোর-বেনাপোল) Highway. Our bus from Dhaka dropped us at the Monihar(মনিহার) Cinema Hall at Jessore(যশোর) town. From there it was a 20 taka Rickshaw fare. It took around 10-15 minutes to reach near the Chachra Shib Temple(চাচড়া শিব মন্দির).

GPS Coordinate of the Chachra Shib Mondir(চাচড়া শিব মন্দির) is (23° 8'39.89"N, 89°12'15.07"E).

Kishoreganj: Isha Kha Jongolbari & Mosque

Saturday, 08 June 2013

It was the 4:00 pm at afternoon. Weather was gloomy. I have boarded on a CNG vehicle. But later I came to know that the driver was not familiar with the place that I was looking for. It was raining heavily. I was almost soaked by the rain while sitting on the left side of the driver.

He dropped me at the middle of nowhere. Rain was continuing and I was alone at the roadside. Not a single person were available there for guiding me to the right way. So picked a path by random selection and started walking using the cover of my poor umbrella that is a witness of my lot of lonely travelings.

Since it was raining, I hardly found any local people around. It was a muddy village road but not that much boring for walking. A couple of guys were catching fish from the pond, and I have asked them about my destination. They have assured me that I was on the right course. It was just after 4 at afternoon, but the gloomy weather made the surroundings as if its about to sunset. I was walking beside the river Narashunda(নরসুন্দা নদী), using the directions from locals.

About Jongolbari(জঙ্গলবাড়ী):

Jongolbari(জঙ্গলবাড়ী) is mainly a fort that is located at the Jongolbari(জঙ্গলবাড়ী) of Karimganj Upozila(করিমগঞ্জ উপজেলা) of Koshoreganj(কিশোরগঞ্জ). It was the second capital of Isha Khan(ইশা খাঁ). He captured the fort from Lokkhon Shing Hajara(লক্ষন সিং হাজারা) during the battle of Egaro Shindur(এগারো সিন্দুর) with Man Singh(মান সিংহ).

This is known as Jongolbari Durgo(জঙ্গলবাড়ী দুর্গ), Isha Khar Bari(ইশা খাঁর বাড়ী), etc to the local people. There is a dilapidated building is still available there. A portion of that building is still being used by the decedents from Isha Kha(ইশা খাঁ).

An archaic mosque is available just beside the Jongolbari(জঙ্গলবাড়ী) fort. Its a small rectangular shaped mosque having three domes at the top and four minarets at the four corners. A large pond is available at the eastern side of the mosque.

How to go:

Though I have picked a lengthy direction for locating the Jongolbari(জঙ্গলবাড়ী), but while returning I have picked the shortest one. The Jongolbari(জঙ্গলবাড়ী) is mainly located beside the Dewanganj Bazaar(দেওয়ানগঞ্জ বাজার). You can easily reach to the Dewanganj bazaar(দেওয়ানগঞ্জ বাজার) from Kishoreganj(কিশোরগঞ্জ) town. Here is a simple direction for your help.

1) From the Ekrampur(একরামপুর) of Kishoreganj(কিশোরগঞ্জ) town, come to the Dewanganj Bazaar(দেওয়ানগঞ্জ বাজার) using any CNG or Easy bike. It will be 15-20 taka per person. If you reserve the whole vehicle, that case it will be 70-80 taka.

2) From there its a walking distance to reach near the Jongolbari(জঙ্গলবাড়ী).

GPS Coordinate of the Jongolbari Durgo(জঙ্গলবাড়ী দুর্গ) is (24°27'2.57"N, 90°50'31.58"E).
