Botanical/Scientific name of Furush Ful(ফুরুস ফুল) is Lagerstroemia indica. It belongs to the plant family Lythraceae. This is native to the China, Japan and Korean territory, but successfully suited with the weather of our country. This flower is common at our parks and public gardens.

As the flowers use to cover the whole plant during blooming season, so its obvious that its a cluster flower. Leafs are small and having lovely foliage. Instead of pink flower, I like the white one most.

This shrubby to small sized tree brings flower more or less every seasons, but I have found most during rainy season. Its lovely to see rain wet Furush Ful(ফুরুস ফুল) instead of normal state.

Kontikari Ful(কন্টিকারি ফুল) - Solanum surattense

Dhuni Chawk Mosque(ধুনি চক মসজিদ)

Friday, 15 June 2012

I am not sure about the correct spelling of this mosque. Anyway, this is known as Dhunichawk Mosque(ধুনি চক মসজিদ) and located at Shibganj(শিবগঞ্জ) of Chapainawabganj(চাপাইনবাবগঞ্জ) district of Bangladesh. Near the area of Sona Mosque(সোনা মসজিদ), there are few more archaic edifices available, this mosque is one of those.

This is a six domed mosque. It was completely dilapidated and only few walls were available. But the government totally renovated this mosque recently. There is no road available to reach near to the mosque. You have to walk through the mango garden and beside the fields. You have to rely on your GPS(24°49'54.71"N, 88° 9'1.17"E) device, or the local villagers to be you on the correct route.

I don't know the time when it was built or who was the builder. I didn't find any inscription near the mosque. The people who lived near the mosque at past were cotton carder in occupation. In Bengali, the cotton carder means Dhuni(ধুনি). Using this word, later the mosque was named as Dhuni Chawk Mosque(ধুনি চক মসজিদ).

How to Go:

There are several ways you can use to visit this archaic mosque. Here goes three for you.

1) Using direct bus from Chapai-nababganj(চাপাইনবাবগঞ্জ) to Sona Moshjid(সোনা মসজিদ) directly.

2) Using Bus from Chapainawabganj(চাপাইনবাবগঞ্জ) to Kansat(কানসাট), then from Kansat(কানসাট) to Sona Mosque(সোনা মসজিদ) using local votvoti(ভটভটি).

3) Using Bus from Rajshahi(রাজশাহী) to Chapainawabganj(চাপাইনবাবগঞ্জ), then using option (2) or (1).

After dropping from bus near at Sona Mosque, you have to walk towards the mosque on feet. Also you have to ask the local people for directions. GPS of the mosque is (24°49'54.71"N, 88° 9'1.17"E). You'll have to go through mango forest which you'll love i can bet(25-30 minutes of walking).

Where to Stay:

I have stayed at Rajshahi town. I mean after visiting the place, i have returned back to Rajshahi town. You can stay at Chapai town if you want.

Balloon Vine(শিবজল ফুল) - Cardiospermum halicacabum

This is an interesting weed plant that grows at roadside. This is known as Balloon vine, Heart Seed, etc in English. This is native to Asian and African tropical region. Botanical name is Cardiospermum halicacabum that belongs to the plant family Sapindaceae. In Bangladesh, we call this Shibjol Ful(শিবজল ফুল), Lota Potkari(লতা পটকারী), etc.

Shibjool is a vine like perennial plant that grows using a support. This is a fast growing plant having tri-foliate leafs(yet still complex leaf to me). White tinny flowers are always unnoticed by pedestrians, but the fruit is very interesting for its outlook.

Fruits are having air inside it and looks like a balloon. Each fruit is containing three black seed inside of it. This plant is mainly propagated using its seeds.

False Daisy(কেশরাজ ফুল) - Eclipta prostrata

Common name of this flower is False Daisy. This belongs to the plant family Asteraceae(aster family). Botanical name of the False Daisy is Eclipta prostrata(Synonym Eclipta alba). In Bangladesh(বাংলাদেশ), we call this weed flower as Keshraj(কেশরাজ), Kalokeshi(কালো কেশি), Keshuti(কেসুতি), etc.

Keshraj(কেশরাজ) is an annual herbaceous plant that grows at waste land, or at the yards with other grasses. Oppositely arranged elliptical leafs are found at the erect stem of the plant. Flowers are milky white in color and daisy like that found over a semi long stalk of the plant.

This is a weed but not invasive. But still this is having lot of medicinal uses across the world. Apart from medicinal uses, people use to find a black color from this plant that they use for dying hair. Also, the extract from this plant is very effective against hair falling. Possibly these are the reasons to call this weed flower as Kesh Raj(কেশরাজ) which means king of hair.
