Hedge Mustard - Sisymbrium officinale

Share at Facebook

I have very less knowledge/information about this weed plant. Also, I am not sure whether I have picked the correct name for this weed. If you know more, please share.

Hedge Mustard is an interesting weed plant. Its almost similar to the mustard flower. It grows at the road side, wastelands, etc places. Flowers are slight small and yellow colors. Flower brings seedpod like fruits. Shinny yellow colored flowers bloom as cluster at the pinnacle of the erect stalk.

Hedge Mustard is also known as wild mustard, oriental rocket, etc. Botanical name of this weed plant is Sisymbrium officinale from the plant family Brassicaceae. This plant is native to Northern Europe. I do not know the exact vernacular name of this plant in our native Bengali(বাংলা) language. May be Buno Shorisha Ful(বুনো সরিষা ফুল) will be a perfect name for this weed.

If the photos of this article belongs to the Hedge Mustard, then this is using at salad in Europe(at some places). Also it has several medicinal uses(if you search on internet, you'll know more).

Photos of this article were taken from Dhaka(ঢাকা) and Rajshahi(রাজশাহী) of Bangladesh(বাংলাদেশ) during June 2012.

ফুলের জন্য ভালবাসা, আমি বুনো ফুল...
