Share at Facebook

বাসাবো বৌদ্ধ মন্দিরের এক কোনায় হঠাত ফুলটির দেখা পেয়ে গেলাম... এই ফুলটিকে অনেকে শিবঝুল বা শিবজটা বলেই চেনে...

Local name for this flower in Bangladesh(বাংলাদেশ) is ShibJhul(শিবঝুল), ShibJota(শিবজটা), etc. This is from the plant family Euphorbiaceae. It has several names around the world, such as Red Hot Cat's Tail, Fox Tail, Philippines Medusa, Chenile Plant, etc. It looks like a tail of a cat and possibly its the reason for having such names. Botanical name of the flower is Acalypha hispida.

This ornamental plant is shrubby type having a bit larger leafs. Flowers look like a tail of a cat and bright red in color(sometimes purple). With proper light, that tail can grow longer and brighter and used to sustain for a longer period at the tree. This plant propagates through the cutting of leafs and stems(hard to grow properly from seeds). The whole plant is poisonous if somehow ingested inside.

Images for this flower are taken from the Bashabo Buddha Mondir(বাসাবো বৌদ্ধ মন্দির), Dhaka(ঢাকা). Reference for the article is WikiPedia.
