Nayan Tara(নয়ন তারা) - Catharanthus roseus

Nayan Tara(নয়ন তারা) is a scentless small flower. The plant type is herb. This flower is from the plant family Apocynaceae. Botanical name of this flower is Catharanthus roseus a synonym of Vinca rosea. This flower is indigenous to Madagascar and known as Madagascar Periwinkle.



This herbaceous perennial plant produces flower more or less every season. Plant grows up to 1.5 feet. In Bangladesh(বাংলাদেশ), this flower has two colors, pink and white. Pink flower has red spot at the middle of the flower. This evergreen plant produces myriad of flowers at a time.



Flower has five petals and its a showy flower. It used to spread by the dispersing of seeds through ants, birds, wind, and water. Also it is possible to grow this plant from the root. This flower is common at almost every garden of Bangladesh. Possibly the reason is, it can grow everywhere, even at a poor soil condition.



This plant can be poisonous if ingested. You'll find that no grazing animals eating this plant, so it can grow freely. Though it's obnoxious factor, in medical science, this plant is using to cure the cancer and at other treatments.



Interestingly this beautiful flower plant is pointed as an invasive weed inside garden at some part of USA and Australia. More of this flower is available at wikipedia.
