Dinajpur is a nice place for the tourist. It has 3/4 tourist attractions. But apart from those tourist spots, Dinajpur is famous for the delicious juicy Lichu(Lichi). You can find this fruit from various places from the country. But the best one is found at Dinajpur.
Also, its not a fruit that you can get every season. You have to come at Dinajpur only the period of Lichu. The best time for the Lichu is between May 15 to May 27. Otherwise it will be hard for you to find any.
Another things to remember, the price of the lichu varies each day. At the beginning and at the end, the price can be too high, or too low. So I'll suggest you to go there for lichu during the 19/20th of the May.
There are three major kind of "Lichu" cultivated at Dinajpur. One is "Madraji Lichu" its price is somewhere around 200-220 taka per hundred. Another one is "Bombai Lichu" and its price is around 150-170 taka per hundred. Finally the best lichu is "Bedana Lichu", it is not found everywhere at Dinajpur, and the production of this one is lower than other verities. The price is around 500-600 per hundred.
You have two options to buy lichies from Dinajpur. One is from the market, which is situated at New Market area. Where you'll find the price of the lichu too high, and the seller will add impurity with the lichu by adding lower graded varieties. So I'll not suggest you to buy from there.
The next, and the best choice is to buy the lichu from the villagers. They are not artful like the sellers from market. So you are guaranteed to get the best products from them. Also the price will be a bit cheaper compare to market.
There are two main village at Dinajpur which are providing the best quality of lichu. One is "Ulipur" village, and another one is "Masimpur" village. You can go at anyone of those. Also don't forget to take "tukri"(a basket that is used to carry lichu) with you. Each "tukri" will cost you around 30-40 taka.
