shangu river, bandarban, nodi, bangladesh

Bandarban district is run by the main river Shangu. This is the main water source of the district. This is a shallow river at normal season. But it has always a heavy water flow to the downhill. At rainy season this is a ferocious river like any other. Its water level raises up at rainy, and it become more deadly that time.

Since this river is a shallow one, you can cross the river even if you don't know swim. At normal season the average water level of the river is around 3-5 ft. But some extreme cases, like near the turns of the river, you may find around 15-20 ft depth. But those are very rare.

Boat riding at river shangu is really marvelous. Above is the blue sky, and the water color is kind of blue. And both side of the river bank comprises of small mountains, and most of them are covered with green plants. Most of the trees from the river bank are evergreen, so you'll find the green view at any season, but at rainy it will be at maximum greenish.

I'll suggest you to hire a boat which is not driven by machine. Cause the chaotic sound of the machine will make your journey even worst. Better take a man driven boat. It will move a bit slowly, but you'll have maximum pleasure from it. Also if you want to have a swim at the river you can stop your boat anywhere and have your bath.

Both side of the river, you find lots of local people are having their baths. People are playing, some farmers are doing the "Zum Plantation" beside the river. This will add an additional pleasure with your trip.

I have started my boat riding from "Koikhangchhari Bazar" to "Ruma Bazar", and between the route, I have found 2/3 small falls beside the river bank. You can stop your boat at those places, and tour the cold water from the falls.

I don't know much about the river. But so far i have heard, its the only river that has been created inside Bangladesh, and most probably ends at Bangladesh too. I don't have any evidence though, but if you have any, you can share it with me.

Finally try to make your trip at Shangu during Rainy season, or at least as soon as after rainy season.
